Land Rover Exchange Instructions
Navigating The Home Page
All of the instructions presented below are based upon the layout of the home page. Click on the image at right for a full view of the LAND ROVER EXCHANGE home page. If the LAND ROVER EXCHANGE home page doesn't look like this when it's opened on your computer, then there may have been a problem with your Internet connection during the page download, network traffic may be exceptionally heavy, and/or you may be retrieving an older version of the page from your browser's cache memory. If the LAND ROVER EXCHANGE home page on your computer doesn't match the one at right, go back to that page and try pressing refresh (Internet Explorer) or reload (Netscape) to download the page a second time. If this doesn't work, use the alternate commands described below.
Please note: This site has been designed to work with the more recent release versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer. (Note: Preview releases of Netscape 6 are not supported.) This site has not been designed to work with browsers created by AOL or other vendors. We cannot provide support or assistance for any difficulties you may have in accessing the site from an AOL or other third party browser.
To View or Search Advertisements
- Click on the phrase Display All Ads on the Home Page Menu to download a complete listing of all ads currently posted at the Land Rover Exchange. This option produces a very large web page and is not recommended if you are using a 28 or 56 kb dial-up connection.
(Alternate command: Click on the phrase Display All Ads on the horizontal menu immediately below the banner ad.)
- Click on the phrase Search and Select Ads on the Home Page Menu to search selectively among advertisements by one or more criteria, including (1) what country the ad is listed in, (2) whether the ad is to buy or to sell, (3) whether the ad is for a vehicle or parts, (4) whether the ad contains one or more keywords and (5) whether the ad was placed within a particular number of days. The output can be in full text format (with or without photo thumbnails) or in summary format.
(Alternate command: Click on the phrase Search and Select Ads on the horizontal menu immediately below the banner ad.)
- Click on the phrase POWER SEARCH on the Home Page Menu to automatically duplicate the searching parameters entered in your last Search and Select Ads retrieval. You can always repeat your most recent Search and Select Ads request with just a single key stroke by using the POWER SEARCH feature. POWER SEARCH always remembers the parameters entered in the most recent Search and Select Ads request. If you change browsers or computers, you'll need to use the Search and Select Ads menu in the regular way to set your POWER SEARCH parameters. Your browser must support "cookies" for this feature to work.
To Add, Update or Delete Your Free Advertisement
- Each advertiser may have up to three ads. A single username and password should be used to control all of your ads and to allow you to participate in the Land Rover Forum. Please note: Only one account for each business and/or individual is allowed.
- Click on the phrase CREATE NEW LOGON ACCOUNT on the Home Page Menu if you don't already have an account. Answer the questions and press the ESTABLISH USERNAME button.
(Alternate command: Click on the phrase Land Rover Exchange Account on the horizontal menu immediately below the banner ad. When the page labelled Land Rover Exchange Account Options is returned, click on the button labelled CREATE NEW LOGON ACCOUNT.)
- Wait a few minutes to receive your password via return E-Mail.
- Click on the phrase LOGON TO ADD, UPDATE OR DELETE AD on the Home Page Menu to Add, Update or Delete a Listing. Advertisements must be updated at least once every sixty days or they will be subject to automatic deletion. Generally speaking, whenever an ad is updated, its expiration will be extended by 60 days, except that the expiration date will only be extended if at least fourteen days have elapsed since the later or either (1) the date the ad was first placed or (2) the date when the expiration was last extended. You can update your ad whenever you want, but only extend the expiration date once every two weeks. Ads may be manually deleted at any time.
(Alternate command: Click on the phrase Land Rover Exchange Account on the horizontal menu immediately below the banner ad. When the page labelled Land Rover Exchange Account Options is returned, click on the button labelled LOGON TO ADD, UPDATE OR DELETE AD.)
- When the next screen appears, enter your Username and Password and press the LOG ON button. The next screen will allow you to select any outstanding ad associated with your account (so that you may update it or delete it) or select PLACE A NEW AD to establish a new ad (assuming you don't already have the maximum permitted 3 ads outstanding). Once you have made the appropriate choice, you'll be asked to affirm that you have read the rules for using this service. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the process.
- Please note that in selecting "Type of Product Listed" you must select either "Vehicle" or "Parts". The categories "Business or Service" and "Land Rover Related Merchandise" are only available for the use of paid LAND ROVER EXCHANGE sponsors. Please be sure to review the LAND ROVER EXCHANGE rules to make sure that your free ad is permitted: Using the vehicle or parts category for Land Rover related merchandise or a business service ad is not permitted and will lead to an account suspension.

Warning!
- LANDROVEREXCHANGE.COM and its owners makes no representations or warranties regarding any information posted at this site or any vehicles or parts described herein. You are encouraged to engage an experienced automotive professional to assist you in your inspection prior to finalizing any purchase of vehicles or parts.
- In the event that there is a problem with items purchased, you want to make sure that you are able to contact the seller. Whenever possible, LANDROVEREXCHANGE.COM strongly recommends that you meet with the seller of any advertised good and inspect the goods prior to making any payment. If you are unable to do this, it is good practice to confirm the identity of an individual advertiser via telephone rather than to simply rely on e-mail communication when purchasing something advertised at LANDROVEREXCHANGE.COM. When confirming someone's identity via telephone, request a listed land line number; cell phones are disproportionately likely to be used for fraudulent schemes. It is especially important that you not trust someone based solely on an e-mail address when the individual uses a bulk e-mail provider like AOL, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc. We encourage you to request and to confirm an advertiser's telephone number and physical address; if their telephone number is not listed with directory assistance and their physical address cannot be confirmed by directory assistance or another reliable third party source, you should request additional proof of identity before sending money. Be especially cautious in response to (1) any request to transfer funds overseas, (2) any requirement to send a deposit to hold an item, (3) any offer to overpay accompanied by a request to return the amount of such overpayment, and (4) any item that seems to be priced too low. These are often signs that someone may be engaging in fraud. In general, you should be especially wary when undertaking any form of international transaction.
- Whereever possible, take steps to insure that that you have received a detailed written record documenting what the seller of any vehicle or parts has agreed to provide before you send money.
- When making any payment, be sure to use a check or credit card that can be traced in the event of a problem. Never pay with cash or travelers checks. For payments made wholly within the US where you are sending payment through the mails, we don't recommend the use of certified checks unless you are comfortable that the seller is reputable. A normal check will clear in five business days and will typically have to be deposited in the seller's bank account pending clearance. While a seller has the right to wait for that check to clear before shipping the goods, the requirement that it be deposited in a bank pending clearance increases the liklihood that you can trace the cancelled check back to his account if there is a problem down the road. A certified check, by contrast, is more readily negotiable and may be more difficult to trace if there is a problem in the future.
- We recommend the use of credit cards where possible since, at least in the US, you have additional rights and protections under Federal Consumer Credit Law if you have a problem with the receipt or functionality of the merchandise purchased with a credit card. (For your specific rights, please check with your card issuing bank.)
- When accepting payment, always confirm that the payment is good before releasing the vehicle or parts which you are selling. This means calling the bank on which the check was issued and confirming that the account exists, that it's in the name of the person making the payment, and that there are sufficient funds to cover the check. A large proportion of the scams we have seen involve the fraudulent use of forged certified checks. Unless you are absolutely sure you can confirm the identity of the purchaser, we recommend that you only release the goods you are selling after the check has cleared the banking system (normally five business days in the USA). You should never accept a check for more than the amount of a sale which requires your making a payment from your own funds to refund the amount of the overpayment to the purchaser.
- Be on the lookout for fraud. There are unscrupulous individuals who use the anonymity of the Internet to pretend to be other than what they are. They may represent themselves as either buyers OR sellers. One probable example is DEFENDERIMPORTS.COM. A slick web page should never be taken as proof that a business is legitimate. In this case, the web page has remained outstanding despite the fact that LAND ROVER EXCHANGE sent a letter to Netfirms, Inc. (the company hosting their web site) alerting them to the probability that DEFENDERIMPORTS.COM was being used in a fraudulent enterprise. Another example of probable fraud that many LAND ROVER EXCHANGE users have reported involves an alleged purchaser offering to overpay for an advertised item (typically with a certified check) if the seller refunds him the amount of the overpayment immediately. Always require your customer to send you the actual payment amount; always make sure the funds are good before you ship.
Questions
Before you write us with comments or questions, please be sure you've read the instructions on this page as well as the Land Rover Exchange Rules and Feedback page. We keep this service free by keeping it as automated as possible. If you're having problems or difficulties, you must be specific. For example, the following real life inquiry (repeated in its entirety) is NOT in the least bit helpful and probably could have been avoided if the sender had read the rules and instructions pages:
How do you go about posting a for sale ad on your website?
